Now that you have begun to understand the lifestyle and aspirations of your customer, the next step is to refine your research still further and make your collection even more focused. A commercial designer will often focus on just one element of a client's lifestyle, perhaps for an eveningwear, lingerie, or swimwear range. It is also important to establish whether your collection will appear in the summer or winter, since this obviously will influence choice of fabric and garment style. The size of your client's budget is another important factor. There is no use creating a wonderful collection of garments if they are not affordable, and similarly, a customer with high aspirations will not want clothes that do not give off the right signals about status and wealth.
